Liptov is no doubt the number one place to spend you holiday in Slovakia. There is a wide range of things to do.

Plan your stay in Liptov and you can explore the nearby regions of Low Tatras, High Tatras, Slovak Paradise, Pieniny, Mala Fatra. You will need some 2 weeks to sample the highlights.

In our park we have a large playground with trampolines, swings, sand pit, slide, climb tower,  small kids bicycles and tricycles for kids and also bikes for adults so if you decide to spend a lazy day on your terrace the kids will be well occupied. The evening campfires are a great opportunity for our guests to chat and exchange their tips for trips.

Villapark Vlasky is located between two lakes. Lake Besenova is one of the best fishing grounds for trout type of fish. Fisherman from far come to challenge their catch of pride – trouts reaching 80 cm and 2.5 kg. Thanks to fresh water and catch&release restriction these fish are breathtaking.

There are also dozens of wild birds nesting in the near surrounding of our Villapark and the lake attracts bird watchers all year round.

Hiking

We are surrounded by hiking oportunities of all levels and walks of various lenghts and difficulties start directly at Villapark Vlasky. Easy walks by the lake with a pram, shorter tours through village centers and parks but also narrow canyons with steep rocks and forest streams. Well known Slovak Paradise is just over an hour drive from us but (as it may be too busy in summer months) you may opt for well known Terchova and its canyons Diery (some 45 km from us).

High Tatras reffered to as European Himalayas are great tip for a really hot summer day as with the rising altitued the temperature falls down and you can even reach snow level in the middle of summer! Many popular trails start by the mountain lake Strbske pleso

 

Towns

There are several historic towns well worth a visit. Poprad, Liptovsky Mikulas are good shopping destinations. In Banska Bystrica you find beautifull historic main square and a town park with WW2 museum (and outdoor park with tanks, train and other WW2 weaponry). If driving to Banska Bystrica, make sure to spend at least half an hour in stunning mining village of Spania Dolina

 

Kremnica - (my hometown) - its a whole day tour and you will descend down to a gold mine, see a castle tower and church, royal mint – the oldest still producing factory in the world making coins non stop since 1328. Auschwitz – Birkenau concentration camp museum is just 3 hours and can form a whole day trip together with a visit to Krakow city center or stunning undeground salt mine Wieliczka.

Itinerary (2 week stay)

 

Day 1

Thermalpark Besenova (4 km from us) www.besenova.com - probabyly the best aquapark in this part of Europe. Well established aquapark with the longest and the fastest slide in Slovakia, saunas, jakuzzis, sea waves pool and kids splash pools. Kids animations daily in top season. Thanks to thermal water (72°C at source) both indoor and outdoor parts are open all year round. Its brown mineral water (some pools) is known for its medical benefits. Lovely evening walk from your villa on the lake shore towards the animal farm with deers and mouflons. You can continue the walk by the village pub to the dam wall of Liptovska Mara, along the dam and down the steep road back to Vlasky.

 

Alternatively walk to the shore of lake Liptovska Mara to the beach with the church tower and up the hill to discover the archeo park Havranok (celtic settlement). Great views of the lake and the Low Tatras.

 

Day 2

This can be a good option for a rainy day. The more mud the more fun ;-)

 

Cutkovska dolina (valley near Ruzomberok) is a great location for kids. Discover the home of the giant Cutko, sample the traditional cuisine in Koliba u dobreho pastiera, if you dare do the zip line ride from one hill to the other. Take a walk up the valley or accross the forest to Hrabovo.

 

Hrabovo is the base station for ski resort Malino Brdo (cabin lift in operation during summer months). Find here Zipline, Tarzania for adults and kids, boats, take the cabin lift to find more kids attractions, rent a 3 wheel cart, scooter or bike for the downhill ride.

 

 

 

Day 3

One of the most visited castles in Slovakia is Orava castle (Oravsky hrad, 35 km). Stunning medieval castle build on a steep rock 112 m above river Orava. Guided tours available also in English, German and Russian (booking advised). Tour takes aprox 2 hours and leads you through numerous levels, expect many stairs. Amazing views, summer themed weekends with medieval performers.

 

Traditional rafting on wooden rafts from Horna Lehota to Oravsky podzamok. 1 hour family rafting on calm river with lovely views and finish under the Orava castle.

 

The ultimate thrill for kids and adults alike is an off road ride on a „cabrio“ military tank in Podbiel. (€9 for 15 min).

 

Drive back home towards Zuberec and Liptovska Mara. Consider spending few horus in the outdoor museum of traditional Orava village in Zuberec – Brestova (themed workshops wednesdays and sundays in summer)

 

Alternatively drive to Namestovo and take a boat tour to Slanicky ostrov (Isle of art).

 

Day 4

 

Start the day by a breathtaking scenery of the hike in two nearby valleys. Canyon with ladders and chains is a little secret gem in our region. Start the walk in Prosiek and walk towards the waterfall (1 hour). Either turn back or continue towards Velke Borove and Oblazy (historical wooden mills in the forests) and descend down Kvacianska dolina to village Kvacany. Refill in the family brewery Brontwai. Walk to your car aprox one hour (leave a second car in Kvacany before starting the trip to avoid this).

Families with small kids can do the Kvacany valley up and down reaching the mills at Oblazy in 1,5 hrs.

 

Lake Liptovska Mara – Slovakia‘s most popular water reservoir with peabled beaches, watersports, boat tours, public beaches with food & drink stalls and playgrounds. Surrounded by mountain chains from both north and south it offers breathtaking views. Boats, water bicycles and jetski can be hired here.

Best location to enjoy the lake, mountain views, choice of several buffets. Clean beach shaded by pine trees. Free toilets and shovers, kids playground and various attractions.

Take a one hour boat tour on luxury catamarans for up to 12 persons (available for private hire), take a part in a cruise Lod Maria for up to 50 persons, rent jets ski, water bicycle, 500 bhp speed boat or go wild and try flyboard. (Buy the boat tickets before entering the beach and avoid paying the beech entry fee ;-)

 

 

Day 5

There are several natural hot springs in our surroundings. Some as drinking wells, others used as bathing pools (Kalameny 6 km located at edge of forest, Liptovsky Jan 18 km located in village park). Both villages are great half day trip destinations. Kalameny – part of village Lucky with a stunning 15 m tall waterfall in the center of the village, several cafes, bowling, wild boar farm and a medical spa. Small aquapark suitable for those seaking for piece and relax (very few kids attractions)

 

You can find unique wooden chruches in two villages nearby (Svaty Kriz and Lestiny). Traditional wooden village Vlkolinec is a UNESCO herritage. You find it high in the mountains with lovely views. Consider walking to the skiresort Malino Brdo from here.

 

 

Day 6

Slovakia is known for its amazing caves of all kinds. Demanovska jaskyna slobody (Demanovska freedom cave) and Demanovska ladova jaskyna (Demanovska ice cave) 15 km – are two unique caves and belong to the oldest known caves in Europe (first mentioned in 1299). The ice cave is open may to october. The „ice interior“ forms each winter by natural forces. These are hovever very touristic caves and you may consider visiting less crowded yet still interesting Stanisovska cave and Vazecka cave in our region or Harmanecka jaskyna and Dobsinska ladova jaskyna (ice cave) over hour drive from here.

 

Steepest summer bobsleight ride on the skislopes of Pavcina Lehota (20 km from us) towards Demanovska dolina. Various other attractions for kids can be found there.

Drive to Jasna and take the cabin lift to Chopok, take a hike on the top of the mountain, visit legendary chalet Kamienka (mountain restaurant).

After taking the lift down, find a path near Hotel Grand towards Vrbicke pleso, lovely mountain lake surrounded by forests, kids will enjoy the wooden playground.

 

Consider taking the lifts towards Chopok and explore the top of the Low Tatras. (discounted tickets available at our reception ;-)

 

 

Day 7

 

Aquapark Tatralandia (12 km) www.tatralandia.sk – one of the largest aquaparks in middle Europe with tons of slides, outdoor and indoor pools open all year round. Replica of a 400 years old sailing ship surrounded by seawater, snorkling pools with sea fish, tropic indoor climate with palm trees and banana trees (banana harvest during Easter)

Its a must see for all kids. Wide range of alco and non-alco coctails served in the wet pool bar, many restaurants and fastfoods. Amazing underground sauna complex with numerous saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools, jakuzzis, rest pools, storm shovers. (discounted tickets at our reception ;-)

 

Nearby flight simulator Hurricane factory where you can „learn to fly“ and experience what it feels like to free fall. Unique experience for adults and kids.

 

Day 8

Spis castle is the biggest castle ruin in middle Europe and offers stunning views of High Tatras behind it. Numerous events are held during summer months weekends. Do not miss the historic towns of Levoca and Spisska Sobota on the way to the castle. They are well worth a stop. Shopping and town visit can be done in Poprad.

 

Book ahead for Tricklandia in Stary Smokovec High Tatras. Indoor trick art & optical illusions.

 

Grand Castle (25 km) is a castle hotel and restaurant bringing history back to life. Well worth a visit for a coffee and cake or delicious lunch and dinner (very reasonably priced). Castle tours available.

 

Day 9

There are several places nearby dedicated to horseriding. Villa betula offers wide range of attractions for kids of all ages (the biggest outdoor & indoor kids play area in the region). Discounts available at our reception.

 

Numerous outdoor teams are busy the whole summer with adrenalin attractions, rafting, paintball, quad bikes, archery, aquazorbing and much more.

Day 10

Lazer maze and laser TAG in Liptovsky Mikulas or two Gokart racing circuits are interesting tips not just for rainy days.

 

Drive to High Tatras hot spot Strbske pleso (as do thousands of other tourists), but only park here and take the path through the woods towards Popradske pleso. This is a mountain lake surrounded by steep hills not accessible by cars (so the atmosphere is not so “disneyland-ish“.

 

Consider taking the mountain railway Strbske Pleso to Stary Smokovec. (You can visit Tricklandia – a great optical illusion park.)

 

Day 11

 

Town visit of Banska Bystrica, do not miss the main square with its leaning clock tower, World War ll memorial park with tanks, plane, heavy artillery.

 

On the way to BB, stop in Spania Dolina, lovely miners village where the time stood still. Make a half hour walk through the paths between the houses finishing by the church and take the covered staircase down to the carpark.

 

Why not drive to Cierny Balog and ride the historic steam railway.
